Consequent to the ethnic conflict prevailed in this region, some of Tamil and Muslim youths including females consisting 30, formed this organization in Nintavur and named this as Centre for East Lanka Social Service – (CELSS) in the year 1994 with the aim of assisting in the rehabilitation activities of the people affected by ethnic conflict and registered as CBO at Divisional level and incorporated at District and National levels as NGO in the year 2003. We are also an affiliated member of Ampara District NGOO Consortium / Council, Ampara, Social Organization Networking for Development (SOND), Akkaraipattu, Network for Sustainable Community Development (NESCOD), and Consortium of Integrated Rehabilitation Organization (CIRO). At present our membership increased to 870 comprising poor Tamil and Muslim youths including females, vulnerable group of fishermen and farmers.

This Organization is a humanitarian Organization. We work for needy people regardless of their creed, nationality, and race or gender

From the inception, we dedicated ourselves for building a peaceful life among Tamil and Muslim communities by building mutual understanding among them which was deteriorated owing to the ethnic conflict.

To attain these aims, with the support of Consortium of Humanitarian Agencies and Neelan Thiruchelvam Trust, we have conducted series of awareness programs, sports activities, Sharamadana Campaigns, Health camps and Exchange programmes between these two communities in this District.

After the Tsunami disaster, with these above mentioned aims, we have also added our effort in restoration of normal life of the affected people and to improve the living conditions of the affected people by undertaking livelihood Projects and infrastructure development works in the affected areas.

We are also encouraging People who are living under poverty line in livelihood development and self employment activities in order to improve the life standard of the vulnerable groups. We are now operating 03 Pre – Schools in the Tsunami affected areas at Nintavur for the betterment of affected Children and implementing a saving and credit schemes among our members and affected families. In our Organization 22 youths including females are working, of them 10 are in office administration, 09 are engaged in field works and other 03 are volunteers. All our able and enthusiastic staff is rendering yeomen service to the needy people with efficient management.

Our administrative structure is revamped by holding annual general meeting in keeping with our constitution and auditing of accounts annually
